IPSCMI Expert - F. Michael Babineaux

F. MICHAEL BABINEAUX, CPSM, C.P.M., A.P.P. is a Professional Development Specialist and Subject Matter Expert who focuses on Purchasing and Supply Management training, education, certification training, and consulting services.  With more than 40 years of practical experience, he offers a superlative background through his line, staff, and training experience.

He is a seasoned professional who serves as an Executive Consultant and Trainer with CATTAN Services Group, Inc.  In 1983 Mike earned his Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.) designation and in 1996 was awarded the Accredited Purchasing Practitioner (A.P.P.) accreditation from the National Association of Purchasing Management (now the Institute for Supply Management).  He most recently achieved his Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) designation through the Institute for Supply Management (ISM).

Mr. Babineaux began his career with his father's river transportation firm as an Assistant Buyer, purchasing marine supplies and foodstuffs.  Mike earned his BS with majors in Marketing, Economics, and Accounting from Southeastern Louisiana University.

Following undergraduate studies at Southeastern Louisiana College, Babineaux entered the US Air Force, where he received his formal training in Procurement.  He was assigned as a Commodity and Service Contract Officer and as a Photographic Equipment Contract Officer.  After leaving the military service he joined a New Orleans, LA based river transportation firm as the Office Manager, where he was responsible for their purchasing activities and all administrative support.

Mike Babineaux was the first Buyer Federal Express hired when it started operations in Memphis, Tennessee.  Beginning with the purchasing of aviation parts and supplies and then moving on to high-level negotiations for the company's major acquisitions, Mike held many of the critical buying and management positions in the FedEx Procurement function during his 30 year career.  His many accomplishments while at FedEx include: writing the first purchasing policy and procedures manual for FedEx; managing the company's first outsourcing effort to uniform over 25,000 couriers and customer service agents; holding the project manager position to select and implement his company's material management, procurement, and payables systems; becoming the architect of the Procurement benchmarking program that was instrumental in FedEx's winning the 1990 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award; leading the EDI program that automated 70% of the company's purchases; and representing the procurement function in FedEx’s successful ISO 9000 registration.  Mike’s last position at FedEx was Senior Business Specialist of Supply Chain Management in FedEx's Strategic Sourcing & Supply Chain Management division.  He was responsible for the design and delivery of professional development programs to over 100 FedEx buyers and others who had a need or desire to learn more about its purchasing practices and techniques.

Mr. Babineaux has guest lectured at universities and has been a guest speaker at purchasing and other professional association meetings, including the ISM’s and the Procurement Management Association of Canada’s International Supply Management Conferences.  At the 88th ISM International Conference, Mike was awarded the prestigious Education/Learning Person of the Year award for his outstanding achievement and dedicated service to the Institute for Supply Management through his company, Babineaux Educational Services and Training, Inc.
